Risography : A Unique and Eco-Friendly Printing Technique
Risography is a printing technique that sits between screen printing and traditional photocopying. Developed in Japan in the 1980's by Riso Kagaku Corporation, it has become increasingly popular among artists and designers for its unique aesthetic, affordability, and low environmental impact.
How Does Risography Work ?
Risography operates similarly to a duplicator. The printing process involves layering colors using soy-based inks, which are transferred through a stencil (or “master”) onto paper. Each color is printed separately, creating vibrant, slightly misaligned textures that give risography its distinctive charm.
Why Choose Risography ?
🎨 Aesthetic Appeal : Risography produces bold, high-contrast images with a slightly grainy, organic texture, making each print unique.
🌱 Eco-Friendly : The process uses minimal energy and relies on biodegradable, soy-based inks, making it a sustainable alternative to conventional printing.
💰 Cost-Effective : Once the master stencil is created, printing large quantities becomes very affordable, making it a great choice for posters, zines, and art prints.
